President and Founder

Kim founded Acumen in 1999, after working as a journalist with CBC Newsworld then moving into public relations with a range of senior positions in the private sector and the BC government. Kim is a passionate advocate – and an acknowledged expert – at developing and implementing strategic communication plans for her clients. With 25 years experience, she excels in event planning, project management, public consultations, media relations and issues management. Her specialty is taking a complicated project or program and developing a plan to make it happen. 

Senior Communications Associate

Shawn is a public relations and public affairs specialist with more than 30 years experience in the public and private sectors at the most senior level. Shawn excels in understanding public sector issues and has a proven capacity for planning and implementation of communications strategies, campaigns and events. Shawn is an experienced team builder and leader in the full spectrum of communications planning and delivery, stakeholder relations, internal and external communications and issues management. He has extensive knowledge of various stakeholder groups in a variety of sectors and across various levels of government—federal, regional, municipal and has particular experience in the northern region and in developing and managing joint private/public sector initiatives. 

Communications Coordinator

From press releases and newsletters to web copy and social media posts, Roxanne is an adept writer who provides concise, engaging communications across organizations and platforms. She is skilled at digital communications, having created and managed all online and social media content for a major retailer in Vancouver. With Acumen, Roxanne continues to manage client’s social media accounts and websites, as well as newsletter copy, e-blasts, reports, collateral materials and manages the print production for all projects. Roxanne has a B.A. in English Literature, she is trained in the best practices in public participation through the International Public Participation (IAP2), and she is currently completing her Public Relations diploma from the University of Victoria.

Graphic Design & Web Development

Andrej brings a new and old world perspective to design projects. Born and raised in Germany, he now calls Vancouver Island home and is a successful freelance designer. Andrej specializes in developing a distinct look for corporate literature, branding and websites and can easily find the right look for your project. Andrej has a Communication Design Post Graduate Degree from the University of Mannheim in Germany and a Bachelor of Design from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design.

Communications Coordinator

Kira is a graduate from the SFU Public Relations certificate program, and also has a diploma in Sports Management from Camosun College. She previously worked at Vancouver-based PR agencies with a focus in social media and content creation for lifestyle brands, retail and non-profit organizations. Kira is an idea-innovator and loves partnering with clients to find their voice and make an impact in the digital realm through cutting edge social media campaigns and community-building, engaging content.
